Countess of Courtesans got rejected with a personal email, which is a little bit of a bummer. There were over 150 submissions for like probably 20-30 spots. "Liked it though, but at the end of day I just had too much material to choose from, and had to make some difficult choices" which from an editor is pretty decent praise.
Luckily though, it was just the right length to submit for Harlequin Spice Briefs. I think that's the best course of action, it's a good fit both risque wise and language wise and anthologies are always a little problematic in that there's always so much competition for only so many spots. Also the length of CoC makes it almost impossible to place in almost any other anthology. Still, I have to wait 3-6 months to hear back from Spice which is a long time, though not expected.
Still, sort of a blah way to start a Monday morning.
